Background & objectives: In recent decades, causes of disability and early deaths have changed from communicable and infectious diseases to chronic and degenerative diseases. Changes in dietary are important factors in transforming disease from communicable to non-communicable. The primary prevention of diseases cloud be possible by changes in dietary habits at childhood.  The current study aims to investigate the effects of a nutrition education program on self-efficacy of female students in secondary schools in Shiraz based on Precede Model.

Methods: The current study was a semi-experimental and interventional research in which 217 students were selected from female schools of 4 districts in Shiraz using stratified cluster sampling method and  randomly categorized into experimental (104 cases) and control groups (105 individuals).  A researcher made questionnaire was used as a research tool and filled out as self-played. Cronbach`s α coefficient for self efficacy was 0.80. Data were collected before and after intervention for both groups using the mentioned questionnaire. The educational intervention was performed for experimental group as lecture, discussion in small groups, pamphlet, training brochure and question and answer. Data were analyzed by repeated measures, paired t.test using SPSS version 18 software.

Results: The average changes of self efficacy (p<0.0001) were significantly increased for intervention group after training period.

Conclusion: The success in this study has shown that training intervention based on PERCEDE model has improved efficiency of nutritional behavior of students. Accordingly, use of this model is appropriate for designing preventive training interventions.
