Abstract:   (20 Views)
Background & objectives: Marriage is considered one of the most significant life decisions, with marital satisfaction being a key predictor of overall well-being and mental health. Numerous studies have explored the factors that influence marital satisfaction and the dynamics that shape it. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational protocol designed to address the psychological injuries resulting from child bereavement and its impact on marital satisfaction and compatibility among affected couples.
Methods: A single-case experimental design using an asynchronous multiple baseline approach was employed in this study. The intervention consisted of ten 90-minute sessions, implemented across three phases: baseline, treatment, and follow-up. Participants completed standardized assessments that measured marital satisfaction and adjustment at each phase. The study population included couples who had lost a young child within the past year (2023-2024). A convenience sample of three couples (six individuals) was selected for participation.
Results: Data analysis was conducted using visual inspection of the durable change index and the recovery percentage formula. Results indicated a mean improvement of 54.53% in marital satisfaction following the intervention, with a follow-up improvement of 55.7%. Marital compatibility increased by 43.41% after the intervention and by 42.53% at follow-up.
Conclusion: The findings suggest that an educational protocol addressing the psychological impact of child bereavement can significantly enhance marital satisfaction and compatibility among grieving couples. These results highlight the importance of incorporating bereavement-related interventions into therapeutic practices. Counselors and therapists are encouraged to consider the relational consequences of child loss and provide targeted support to strengthen marital bonds during such crises.
